Jailed for semen drink

Dec 1, 2010

18 MONTHS JAIL

Jailed for semen drink

THE man who tainted his female colleagues' water and tea with his semen and secretly recorded them drinking was jailed for 18 months on Wednesday.

Sim Keng Tee, 35, then a civilian officer with the Singapore Police Force, was convicted last week of two counts of mischief and eight charges of intruding into the privacy of his female colleagues and unknown women.

Sim, who had a total of 159 charges, had masturbated to a photograph of a woman colleague on Feb 21, 2008 and collected the semen in a small bottle.

He recorded the act on his mobile phone. He returned to his office and waited for the victim to leave temporarily so that he could mix his semen with the drinking water in her water bottle. He also recorded this. He then chatted with her and secretly recorded her drinking the tainted water.
He struck again two months later with another female colleague. He poured the semen into her water bottle of green tea. While talking to her, he recorded her drinking the water mixed with his semen.

His offences came to light in September last year when a third female colleague caught him taking upskirt photos of her

I could not believe this father would be so ruthless that he committed bribery to have two of his daughters murdered, in order to claim the life insurance policies. The accused, Ram Kishun, was faced with some financial crises and desperately needed cash to pay for a land deal. He made a deal with his neighbor Pawan, offered him Rs50, 000 (S$1,464) and his motorcycle to kill his daughters. The claim is valued at Rs2 lakh (S$54,378) for each daughter from the insurance company. He had Pawan take his daughters out to a movie and later drove them to a river, where he pushed them into in and let them drown.

Having read this article, I am extremely disturbed and speechless by such atrocities. Why would he want to rob his daughters’ lives, when there are actually other means of getting the funds. He could have gotten a loan from relatives and friends or perhaps get himself a proper job to pay for that deal. If he does not have the ability to purchase the plot of land, he should have given up on it. Are not his daughters, who were also his family more important than the land deal?

There goes a saying about how family is one’s everything and nothing else matter. Family is the most eternal part of all human’s life. It is a feeling of togetherness and the gravity of closeness that are shared among the people of the same kinship. Having children makes the family complete and blissful.

Greed is indeed evil! It is heart wrenching to know what someone would do when money is involved. Yes, it is true that one cannot live without money. However, it does not give anyone the rights to kill for money. If he does not have the capability of living luxuriously, than why not just live it simple. I am certain that he will be just as happy with his family united. The world had changed and so are humans. In recent years, deaths are rapidly on the rise and the causes are not solely mishaps or accidents. Humans are taking away the lives of others intentionally.

I know this is not the first and definitely not the last case. However, we could prevent more of such tragedies from happening. For instance, by making donations can be one effective way to help people from the third-world countries. Families who are suffering from poverty need to know that they are not alone and there are others who understand and are willing to lend a helping hand.

Man had daughters murdered to claim insurance money- Low Shu Wei

It is indeed true that money could change somebody. Thats why we always see those murder cases in the newspaper over money. Yes, sometimes we may find ourselves in desperate situations. But the acts of the man who had his two daughters murdered are just insane. His daughter literally did nothing wrong and was rewarded death. It is sorrow for their family.

What a pity that he chose money over his two daughters. After all, what he wants to do with the money is only just a land deal. I do not think that the land deal is worth more than his two daughters. The world is full of criminal minds. He even thought of using his daughter insurance money to do his personal stuffs.

Which parent will actually kill their own flesh and blood just for money? Yes, there are actually parents who does that, but under a normal circumstance, no parent will bear to take away a life they brought to Earth. It is sad to know that people actually have the guts to even think of killing their own child just to claim the money after their death. Parents spent so much time and effort to look after their child, mothers have to expect the child for nine months, the inseparable bond between the blood ties still cannot be a good enough reason for parents to spare the child's life.

Taking your child's life for money is the last thing you should do, in fact, this option should never ever cross your mind. Money is a non-living thing, it is dead, but humans are thinking creatures. There are many other ways to solve monetary problems. Working part time and taking a loan is a much better option than having to kill innocent lives. Although Ram did not kill his two daughters on his own, but he was the one who instructed Pawan to to it, which is also as bad. Luckily neighbors found out in time that something was not right, and immediately took action.

No matter in what situation, one should think through properly of the consequences and the losses of what they want to do. In this case, Ram has given up his two lovely daughters for money, which will be a great loss to him. Money can always be earned back easily, but his two dead daughters, no matter how much he wants them back, they will never return to him again. Some things, once lost, they will remain lost forever.

HEARTLESS FATHER!!!

The latest article about the Man had daughters murdered to claim insurance money’ made my heat sank. How could he kill his own flesh and blood? Even animal know how to take care offspring and they do not even kill their offspring to satisfy their hunger. How is it possible for humans who have brain for us to think, made such an inhumane crime?

This tragic incident happened in India India where Ram Kishun, a resident of Jainpur village in Faizabad district in Lucknow, had confessed to the crime. Although he is in need of money, there are variety of ways he can solve it without doing a crime. For example, he can borrow money from friends, family members and banks. Even if the three options I had listed are not able to help him, he can earn extra cash by working extra jobs. This option doesn’t involve crimes. Why can’t he make the right decision and use the right option?

“Police said that they got a lead in the case after villagers said that they had seen the children with Ram on a motorcycle on the day they went missing.” Luckily the villagers were observant enough so that these children can get their justice. I really hope that this man would be given a harsh punishment then, he should just be sentenced to death. My prayers went out to these children. They do not deserve to die in such a tragic and pitiful way. L

The exchange of a barrage of artillery fire between North and South Korea on Yeonpyeong Island had raised concern worldwide. The attack was undoubtedly initiated by North Korea. It is a reckless and provocative action that dangerously heightened tensions in the already fraught situation. Two troops and two civilians were killed in the firing, along with more than a dozen people injured. Homes were destroyed and forests were set ablaze too. This had forced Seoul into an agonizing debate on how many violent provocations it can tolerate before it has to retaliate.

There was another surreptitious attack last March, which led to the sinking of the Cheonan, a South Korean naval ship and killing 46 sailors. However, Seoul did not strike back and warned Pyongyang it would do so if pushed again.

Since the Korean War ended in 1953, the relationship between the North and South Korea have always been on the rocks in the past years. Tensions will bound to escalate after the United States dispatched a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to South Korea for joint military drills that will take place from Sunday to next Wednesday. During a phone conversation with the South Korean counterpart Lee Myung Bak, the US president Barack Obama emphasized that the United States stands shoulder to shoulder with their close ally.

I do not wish for anymore uncalled deaths of innocent civilians. Perhaps, the representatives from all over the world could come together for a talk to discuss how they could distress the tension and rebuild the broken ties between North and South Korea. This conflict must be resolved in order for peace to be restored. China, on the other hand, should step in and stop approving North Korea of their actions. By doing so, North would then have no back up thus be discouraged for further attacks. China must be fair in dealing with the two Koreas.

STOP ATTACKING!!!! ;(

Please stop this useless act of violence! Can’t they solve whatever misunderstandings or problems they have peacefully? Violence doesn’t solve anything. In fact, it will further strain their ties.

Last Tuesday, 23 November 2010, North Korea lobbed artillery shells at Yeonpyeong Island, South Korea. I really detest North Korea as their act of violence lead to the loss of 4 innocent life’s. It’s not that I am being bias as I am a hardcore ‘k-pop’ fan but I really feel that by attacking South Korea, it will not solve any disputes between them. I don’t entirely blame the whole country as I know that North Korea citizens are innocent. It’s due to their poor political system that create a lot of problems which involve other countries.

The world already has a bad impression and feels that North Korea is a threat due to its nuclear programs. Why they want to make situation worse by attacking your neighbour. If I were them, I would just stop these useless nuclear programs and make peace with South Korea. The money that North Korea used to invest on their military goods can instead be used to improve their citizen’s standard of living. Isn’t it better this way? It will be a win-win situation for everyone rather than buying military goods to destroy innocent life’s and creates havoc.

I hope that this incident will not lead to another Korean war that happened on 25 June 1950 There are more than enough violence going on in the world. I do not want the country that my idols are living in to be in a war zone as their life will be put in danger. Not only the idols but innocent lives will also be at risk. L

N.Korea used rockets to pound S.Korean island: lawmaker- Low Shu Wei

Why are they still using violence to solve political problems? The north Korea's government is still not at a stage of maturity and they are still using violence to solve problems just like in the Africa. This time, the north fired about 180 projectiles into the south killing some civilians. Just imagine that about 180 missiles are coming at your direction, I would not want to be in the position.

The north Korean government is a Communist party. They only do what they believes and does not consult anybody. This ideology takes place also in China long time ago and they found that it is inefficient and only brings disadvantage to their citizens and they decided to abolish it. Why can't the north Korea follow its peer and open up to the outside world. If they had follow China, they would not have to use those weapons every time as a threat to uphold their position.

I hope that this time the south Korea and their allies could force the north Korea's government out of control so that their country could enjoy prosperity.

Back in 1950s, there was a Korean war, which was a military conflict between the Republic of Korea. A war broke out and thus dividing Korea into two. From then on, there was no sign that North and South Korea could merge together as one again due to their differences in dictatorship. North Korea was aided by the Soviet Union which was a Communist country, and South Korea was aided by United Nations, which is more to the democratic side.

This time North Korea fired up to 170 projectiles to South Korea, killing two marines and  two civilians, injuring 18 and destroying 20 homes as well as setting up forest fires. Even with this, North Korea warns South Korea of any retaliation. In my opinion, by firing all these missiles, they are trying to disrupt the peace around. It seems that North Korea had been secretly arming up and have been making their defense stronger.

This caused a great threat to South Korea and that now, they are sending more troops to the front-line islands as they are afraid that North Korea's firing will not just stop this way. South Korea is now arming up as well to retaliate and go back even harder if North Korea decides to strike up on them. Also now, with
United Nations backing up South Korea and China taking sides with the North Korea, it seems like the attack won't be as simple as how it started out to be.

If this is not stopped, I reckoned that World War III will likely to arise. With all other countries slowly being brought into the picture, things will get more and more complex and problems will be harder to resolve. So i feel that the United States or even the United Nations should do something about this, and if possible create an appeasement between both parties so that no more violence will be used to solve any problems. When there is violence, it is always the innocents that suffer.

North Korea artillery shelling on South Korea island

The tension between North Korea and South Korea has been on going up to this date. Their differences can be date back to the Korean War. However, up to now, both Korea has been unable to reconcile due to their different beliefs. North Korea sees South Korea as an enemy and thus cutting off all ties between them.

From my point of view, I condemn the actions of North Korea artillery shelling on South Korea island. These actions are threatening peace and this is seen as a act of provocation. North and South has been exchanging artillery fire over their disputed borders even raising further tensions between the two rivals. This is bound to get even worst with the recent attacks. Recently, South also accused North of torpedoing the South Korean Cheonan corvette navy warship which has caused forty-six sailors to lose their lives. However, North denied these allegations.

North Korea is also seen to the rest of the world as a "threat" as they insist on building up massive nuclear missiles which they believe that they will use it only for their own defense. However, the United Nations sees it as an act of terrorism which is a threat to any other nation. Sanctions has been ordered against North but they still insist on building up nuclear powers.

With North Korea constantly building up their nuclear capability, they will not likely to stop. With South Korea working closely with it's allies; United States. There is an unlikely chance that North will ceasefire and maintain good relationship with South Korea. The tension between both Korea's are likely to increase further with more North attacks on South.

I firmly believe that the United Nation council should order more sanctions against North to stop them from further attacks which may invite retaliation. Peace and stability between North and South will steadily bring economical well-being between the peninsulas and to the rest of East-Asia.

N.Korea used rockets to pound S.Korean island: lawmaker

SEOUL, Korea - A South Korean lawmaker presented North Korean rocket casings Thursday from the attack on a border island, pointing to the use of high-explosive weapons against civilian targets.

Park Sang-Eun, a lawmaker of the ruling conservative Grand National Party, presented the mangled and charred remains in front of TV cameras during a meeting of party leaders, saying he had picked up the debris on a trip to the island.

Seoul said the North fired up to 170 projectiles, of which 80 hit Yeonpyeong island, killing two marines and two civilians, injuring 18 more people, destroying about 20 homes and setting forests and fields ablaze.

Most previous official reports had referred only to artillery shells.

"Most of casings found on the island came from multiple rocket launchers," Park told journalists, according to his aide.

"Rockets fell on civilians homes, administrative offices and a medical centre, not only on military targets."

A multiple rocket launcher - usually mounted on a truck or tank - can, unlike a traditional artillery gun, fire many unguided rockets in fast succession, delivering a large explosive load almost instantaneously. Park presented two casings fired from 122mm multiple launch rocket systems, saying he had found one near a military installation and the other in the backyard of the island's post office.

The 122mm rocket packs 27 kilograms (59.4 pounds) of powder, compared with the 3.6 kilograms of powder found in an ordinary artillery shell, the conservative Munhwa Daily said.

Outrage seized me as I was reading this article. In fact, I’m thoroughly disturbed by such conducts. Although, I may not be so much of a cat lover, however, I strongly denounce every acts of barbarity against any sort of living creatures. I do have pets of my own, and I love every single of them dearly. I had never harbored any inhumane thoughts or whatsoever. I wondered where and how she’d gotten the nerve to crush this harmless kitten to death. What did that poor creature did to deserve a fate like this? Has she had no bit of compassion in her? Despite having committed a murder, she snapped pictures of her evil-doings and later posted it onto the internet. She appeared to be glorious about what she had done, which disgusted me extremely.
Unfortunately, this was not the first act of insanity that took place in China. Years back, another China woman had uploaded evidence of her trampled a kitten then gouged its eyes out with her stilettos. Exactly, what was she thinking when she carried out this unmerciful execution. China is a notorious for their savageness with animals. They kill and feed on all kinds of animals, such like; rabbits, dogs, bears, and even snakes. I may not have travelled to China personally, but I’d seen documentaries on related brutalities. I saw how they skinned the animals alive and watching them struggling in agony was definitely painful. I could almost imagine and feel myself being ripped apart and the thought scares me.
For instance, animal cruelty is regarded as a crime in Singapore. Offenders caught for abusive behavior towards animals will face either a penalty fine or imprisonment, or both. Even so, animal abuse had not been completely eliminated right here. China, being one of the world’s largest country, has many provinces. This made it even tackier to combat all delinquency. Nonetheless, I urged that officials should have laws enforced to assist in bringing these cannibalism and bloodsheds to a halt. Animal abuse must be deal with severely, and the wrongdoers shall be hold responsible for their atrocity.
No one should ever lay a finger on another living being with the intention of causing harm. Animals are after all, living creatures. They feel pain like we humans do. I am certain they want to be loved and cared for equally.. Therefore, I call for everyone to come together and report any cases of animal abuse. Campaigns can be organized to promote anti-animal abuse, which further educate people that these acts will be condemned.

Animal Cruelty

When I saw this post, first thing that came to my mind was "How could anyone have the heart to do such things to such vulnerable animals." How could she attack animals who are defenseless? To show that she is much more superior? Yes, maybe to her. But not to anyone else who have watched the video or saw the pictures posted online. When I saw the video, I could barely watch it, after 20 seconds I decided to stop the video because it was just too heart-wrenching. She seems to enjoy torturing the kitten every single second but to the kitten it's every single second of pain it has to endure.

China are notorious for animal cruelty and nothing much anyone can do about it. But doing such acts and posting the video online makes millions of animal lover furious. She is just inviting trouble for herself. She has no respect and no rights to do such things to defenseless animals. She may feel guilty for what she has done. But what is done can't be undone. A innocent and young kitten just lost it's life due to someone who tries to show her power to the entire world. She could be seeking revenge on something but she chose to revenge it on a innocent young kitten. That is just brutal and coward actions to me.

I myself is a animal lover. I love animals because they are like friends to me. They can be there to cheer you up. But I definitely cannot tolerate this woman's action. I am very sure justice will caught up with her eventually.

STOP ABUSING!!!! ;(

Animal abuse is an inhumane act and cruel. It reflects on how the individual personality and impulse act of violence. We should treat them with respect as they are also living creatures like us. Just because they can’t speak and complain, that doesn’t give us a right to treat them harshly. Like us, they also can feel pain.

Animal cruelty crimes are escalating at an alarming rate. We must do something to help save these animals from this torturous and painful fate before it is too late. Recently, there had been a case of animal abuse, cat, at China. As the article from ‘Stomp’ has said, this China woman crushed the kitten and makes it suffer a painful and sad death. In my opinion, she was very heartless as not only she murdered a cat but she even has the guts to post the pictures on internet. Doesn’t she felt guilty at all? Imagine yourself being crushed to death how painful will it be? Or why not imagine that one of your love ones being crushed to death how would you feel? I’m sure that you feel despair and in agony.

We as human beings should never abuse or tolerate any kind of abuse. These animals were created by God for us to take care of. They are not here for us to abuse them. Spreading awareness and public education about animal abuse is taking a small but active step in preventing animal cruelty from making innocent life to suffer. Many people assumed that animal cruelty is not a serious matter or it is not something that they should be concerned of well, this ignorant belief is wrong. Animals are living creatures that deserve a right to live happily and healthily just like us.

Some people that deliberately hurt animals is because it gives them a feeling of power and superiority. Often sadistic acts of animal abuse are one step away from abusing humans. In a shocking amount of cases, those that commit terrible acts of violence to people, serial killers, child abusers, spouse beaters and rapists have a history of animal abuse. When we fight against various issues to make this world a better place for us to live in, why can't we make earth a safer place for these harmless, innocent animals too. J

brutal act of china woman- Low Shu Wei

As an animal lover, I condemn such acts of the China woman. These acts are brutal and are only executed only by heartless people. As from the article, the woman used her high heel to stamp the kitten. If I was in the MRT and some woman with high heel just stepped on me I would possibly bleed straight away.

Since ancient times, although man has the capability to hunt animals for food but they do not use methods like this to torture the animal. Take the African tribesman for example, when they hunt for animals, they would use poisoned arrows to do the job. It is less hurtful to the animal as it is already asleep. Even after the animal fell to the ground, these tribesmen would perform a ritual to the animal and thank them for giving its meat to them.

I do not think that anyone should perform inhuman act against another animal.

Low Shu Wei

What's with animal abuse? Don't these people have a heart? Don't they know animals has feelings and that they feel pain too? I really wonder how can they bear to even hurt such helpless little creatures and not even feel bad about it.

This china lady is truly heartless. She literally crushed the poor little thing with her high heels, and even took pictures of it and post it online. There was another china lady who did the same thing 4 years ago. Stepping a little kitten with high heels on purpose until all the intestines fell out? That is totally inhumane. She should have thought if someone were to do the same to her, how would she feel?

Even in Singapore, there are also animal abuse cases. Statistics show that in the month of September, there were a total of 73 cases, and that is a something not to be proud of. I think animal abuse should be stopped as it would hurt many little lives out there. Animals who are stray especially, they do not have anything or anyone to depend on, and if people still ill-treat them, it'll make them more miserable and hopeless.

I think we should educate more people on animal abuse, that no one should do such acts. Animals are living things as well. They have a heart as well. If we wanted to decrease the numbers of animal abuse, more people should know the need to care and show love for animals, too. Nobody wants to be ill-treated, Since you wanted to be treated well, then you should learn to treat others the same way too. Same goes even for animals.

Woman in China crushes kitten to death with high heels

A woman in China had apparently crushed a kitten to death with her high heels, disembowelled it and then posted the photos on the Internet.

This is the second such incident to have happened. In 2006, another China woman posted pictures of herself stepping on a kitten and gouging its eyes out with her stilettos.

STOMPer OMG, who came across graphic photos of the latest cat abuse online, said:

"A woman in China posted pictures of her crushing a poor kitten to death with her high-heeled shoes.

"She seemed to have copied the inhumane act of another Chinese woman in 2006, who also stepped on a kitten until it died using her high-heeled shoes, although netizens think this latest abuse is even worse.

"The graphic photos show the woman, wearing a sexy black dress, stepping on the kitten with her heels, crushing its head and cutting its body up until its intestines fell out.

"She then stuffed the dead cat into a bag."

Recounting the Downtown East murder, which arose from gang-related disputes that took place a couple of weeks ago, send jitters down my spine. Just when everyone thought the case was closed, another armed attack took at Bukit Panjang housing estate on 8th November 2010. Six young men, aged between 15 and 23 were arrested for attacking six male youths with parangs and choppers. Five of them were hospitalized with injuries.
Never had I imagined human beings to be so ruthless towards one another. We are, after all God’s creations and should live harmoniously. How could anyone attacked and injured someone else, yet still feel victorious after that? Not a little bit of guilt? Youths these days are becoming extremely violent and worst, weapons are now used. They tend to handle disputes physically rather than taking a step back to chill before resolving it with their wits. I understand that one can’t think right in a heated moment, that doesn’t give one the right to cause harm to another. I mean, every problem have its solution.
Gang activities have always been on the loose but are not deadly threats to the citizens. However, in recent months, teenagers who are involved in gangs are on the rise. They are turning more vicious and even gone to the extent of hurting innocents. Where is the love? What has gone wrong with this world, seriously? These attackers are as young as age 15 and they have a prosperous future ahead of them. They should be in schools undergoing proper education; instead, they rather ruin their lives getting into gangs.
No matter how much efforts or resources the government implemented to combat these issues, it is almost impossible to take them all down. Therefore, both the schools and parents have responsibilities to educate them and leading them to right path. Parents especially, regardless of how busy they are, should at least spend some quality time with their kids. Bringing them out occasionally and providing them with the attention and love they yearned. I am certain these would effectively prevent more strayed youths and lowering the crimes rate at the same time.
Eugenie Tan

Problems can be solve by fighting things out. Is this really true? Even though many disagree, but why is the rate of gang fights in Singapore constantly rising in the recent months?

Youngsters nowadays are getting more and more hot-headed and are becoming more daring. They always use their fist to fight their way through everything, thinking that by fighting they will be able to solve the problems. By winning the fight, they will feel that they achieved something.

This recent gang-fight incident at Jelapang road, caused 7 youths to be injured and sent to the hospital. This case involved slashing of innocent parties. The group of gangsters did not slash them for a valid reason, they just wanted to make a din and create trouble. They asked the other party if they were from another gang affiliation, when they wasn't. Before the innocent party could react, they started attacking them with long knives.

I feel that youngsters nowadays are getting more and more out of hand. Mostly, it should be due to lack of parental guidance. Most of their parents should be always working, coming back home only late at night. This caused them to be led astray, mixing with the wrong friends outside, giving them the opportunity to create trouble. Giving them right counselling would be able to help them understand that what they are doing is wrong and might be able to help them come back into the right track. We should take more time to understand these youngsters and understand why they do the things they do. Help should be given to them, in order to reduce the occurrence of gang fights in Singapore.

STOP FIGHTHING!!!

Are the youngsters nowadays have too much leisure time? Or is it due to their poor upbringing that makes them commit such an inhumane act. These guys think that by using violence, problems will be solved and it will make them real man. In fact these people are not real man. Real men are people who can do without violence and still strike down the opponents with reason, sharp thinking and intelligence. If one is a real man, we need no violence to justify our masculinity. Apparently these people have none of these so their only pride is their anger and mindless act of violence. To me, a man who can’t control their anger is a loser even though he may have won other men, like in terms of fighting.

Last Monday, seven youths were involved in the gang fight at Bukit Panjang. The group of attackers were said to be yelling "369", which is a gang affiliation. One of the resident said that, in the past 2 months there are youngsters playing skateboard and making a nuisance of themselves there. They make noise throughout the night, sometimes till 1 to 2am and or even 3 to 4am.

I wonder why the residents there didn’t make a police report on this ‘hooligans’ who are disturbing their night rest earlier. If only they had made a police report earlier, the gang fight that happened on Monday could have been avoided as the police will surely do something about it. I am saying this based on my experience as in my neighbourhood we also have youngsters that make so much noise and even fighting sometimes at night about 11pm onwards. We make a police report on them and now it is much more peaceful. If we want to make our neighbourhood safe, we also need to play a part in it and always be vigilant.

To solve the problem of these youngsters who are involved in gang activities, they should get counselling immediately. Schools should monitor those students, who have bad behaviour or play truant often. Instead of expelling them, they should find out the problem behind their behaviour and guide them back to the correct path. By expelling them, the situation might get worse as there will be no one to guide and monitor them as majority of their parents are working.

The neighbourhood police need to do more patrons at our housing estate, especially those affected areas. Respective Community Centre’s can work together with the police force to catch these ‘hooligans’ before more innocent lives are injured or lost. I am sure that if all the Singaporeans help out to catch these gang members, gang fights might not occur at all anymore.

Seven youths assaulted in fight at Bukit Panjang - Low Shu Wei

Its Wednesday November 10 2010 two days after the incident occurred. To be exact, it happened around the same time (10p.m.) when this blog was published.  How did I know so well? This incident relates to my close friends.

I live in Bukit Panjang, and I know the places where the incidents had happened. It was on the downstairs of block 418, 4 blocks away from my house and on the basketball court near block 522 which is just 100m from block 418.

Here, what I am about to blog is what my friends said.

Victim W recounted, “On that night, we were annoyed at how much people there was at the block 418 soccer court, so, we went to the nearby basketball court to play our games.”
“It was until 10p.m. when we were resting and cracking some jokes, some people walked into the court.”

“It was a group of 6 men all coloured that walked towards us.”

“We didn’t notice that they had something in their hands which were ultimately weapons such as parangs and steel rods, the lights were already switched off.”

“They surrounded some of us and threatened ‘are you from the pa hai tong’ ?”

“We were all in shock lah, just imagine someone at a point of time just point so long knives at us, we have yet to recover from our shock and they just went on shouting and started slashing many of us.”

“Just imagine, they just anyhow whack, many of us don’t even have the time to run lor”

“They did not stop, those who got involved had at least gotten a hit or two, many of them was caught in the hand but the most unfortunate thing was that victim L got slashed on the neck.”

“We shove them back and ran towards the shopping centre, 6 of us already in blood.”

“We were panting, we ran about 10 metres and heng ah(luckily) they did not followed.”

“The next thing I remembered is them walking towards the 522 block SLOWLY, as if they had a clear conscience about what they had done and feel ok lah about it.”

“After this commotion, you know lah the usual thing happens, police came as well as the ambulance.”

This was what exactly my friend told me. Even not being there, I felt really bad about it. I imagined if someone were to point such a long sharp object at me I would have that indescribable chill that shakes the bottom of the spine.

Into deeper thoughts, i noticed that nowadays, those gangs are getting more and more personal; they would just want to hurt you. It is so inevitable, it is not like a robber or a mugger when you give them the money, everything settles. These guys are crazy, they are out to hunt.

I am really glad that all my friends are fine this time. When I got to know this story from the newspaper, I really had thought that someone I knew just passed away.  I also learnt that the suspects have all been caught. Well done to the police force.I also learnt that the suspects have all been caught. Well done to the police force.

Gang-related problems have always been a minor issues in recent past years. But recently,  gang-related problems has been rising. There are several incidents in recent news stating civilians being attacked by groups of reckless and senseless teenagers wielding vegetable's knives known as "Parangs".

Although Singapore has been labeled as crime-free city, but low crime does not mean no crime. These type of attacks are being a constant threat to all innocent civilians who are likely to be attacked if they appear at the wrong place and at the wrong time. Hence, it is not safe anymore for anyone to step out of their house after 11 P.M now. For instance, looking back at the case of the DownTown East murder, I think it was a misunderstanding between both groups which resulted in bloody clashes and a death of a bright and young teenager. And no matter who started the fight, both parties are in the wrong.

Teenagers should be responsible for their own action. Thus, I hope that parents out there should monitor their child's activities and pay more attention to their kids rather than spending their time to earn more money. Mixing with the wrong company will lead them to the wrong path or even getting them killed or spending their lives behind bars.

I am sure such similar cases are likely to appear again in the coming months. For me, I will think twice now before I step out of my house after 11 P.M because I do not know if I am the next victim. After all, everyone wants to live in a peaceful environment where they do not feel any threat around them.

Seven youths assaulted in fight at Bukit Panjang

SINGAPORE: Seven youths, aged between 14 and 20, were assaulted in what was believed to be a gang fight at Bukit Panjang on Monday night, seriously injuring one of them.

Police say the assault first took place at about 10pm at Block 418, Fajar Road - where a 20-year-old man was beaten up and later hospitalised.

Not long after, the group of attackers rained blows on six others near a basketball court at Jelapang Road - some 400 metres from the first site.

The group of attackers were said to be yelling gang slogans, such as "369" - a gang affiliation.

All seven youths were sent to hospital.

Police are investigating.

Residents said there has been a recent spate of youth activities in the area.

"For the past two months, there have been a bunch of kids, youngsters, they are playing skateboard. They make noise all the way through the night, maybe sometimes till 1 to 2am and sometimes to 3 to 4am and we can hear the noise. And there's some motorbikes making noises down there," said a resident.

Haze problems has been ocurring every year, but this year, the haze has worsened and has crossed over the 100 PSI mark. Our source of haze problems has been coming from our neighboring country which is Indonesia. Little has been done to stop the haze problems.

During this period of time from end October to early November, haze problem will occur. This is seen as a yearly problem because burning and clearing of forests is cheap and good for plantations which all farmers in Indonesia usually does. The government in Indonesia has find it difficult to control the situation as Indonesia is big in area and has a big population.

This haze problem has caused a lot of health problems in Singapore such as asthma attacks, short of breath and vision blindness. This is caused people to stay indoor and restrict their movements outside. For myself, I have to stop excercising for a short period of time because of the haze. This might also caused tourists to stop visiting Singapore because of the haze.

I hope that neighboring countries in ASEAN would work together closely and stop those unlawful palm oil developers from burning the forests using illegal means. I also hope that Indonesia would strengthen their law enforcement on illegal deforestation and prevent this haze problem from re-ocurring again.

Earlier this month, South-East Asia countries announced an urgent plan to stop the man made fires. However, many environmentalists fear Indonesia will be unable to enforce the plan at a time of political and economic uncertainty. The haze resulted from the forest fires in the Riau Province of Sumatra, Indonesia. That is 894 kilometers away from Singapore. Officials in Riau province have urged people to stay indoors and those venturing out have been wearing masks as they did during the last haze crisis in 1997. For weeks, some had virtually been prisoners in their homes, unable to venture out because of the smog, which hung like a blanket over this once bustling city.
Indonesia, being the world’s top palm oil producer, which had a history of weak forestry law enforcement, appears unable to do anything about the problem. Illegal land clearing by palm developers is common. People have continued to conduct land clearing with burning method because it is quick and reduce the acidity of peat soil but release vast amounts of greenhouse gases.
Singapore had urged Indonesia to allocate the necessary resources, and implement timely and effective measures to solve the haze situation. Malaysian schools were forced to shut due to the poor air quality in some its southern towns. Haze caused by fires in Indonesia builds up during the dry season, affecting tourism and transport. It contributes to health problems across the region and leading to strains in generally good ties between neighboring countries .
Besides the reduced visibility, which greets me as I step out of my door every morning. I could almost detect the burnt smell in the air I breathed. Singapore looked so gloomy and I can hardly see the moon during the night. There were times when I wondered if we can buy clean air with money. Money have donated to aid Indonesia’s burning problems but how much exactly have been put to good use.  I feel that Indonesia should imposed harsher laws to combat the slash and burn approach. This has been on-going for years and unless it is tackled, mother nature will be in deep trouble.
Indeed, greed, poverty and a breakdown in law and order lie at the heart of this man-made disaster.

A farmer’s dilemma -by Low Shu Wei

Should or should they not clear the forest using the traditional slash-and-burn technique? Should these farmers be blamed for clearing the forest using the traditional way?
In my blog this week I shall address to these two major problems that causes the haze in Singapore.
We often see reports of the haze issue in the nearby Indonesia. These reports usually states who should be blamed, most likely it’s the farmers in most cases. But in all of these reports, you only see those who are at fault but no way to tackle it.
Why is there no way to tackle it then? From the farmer’s perspective, the slash-and-burn technique is the most cost effective way to cultivate crops. First, the nutrients from the ash of the cleared forest will remain and be used to cultivate crops. Secondly, it does not require any extra cost.
If farmers were to cut the trees down and bring it to other place for disposal, it would be costly and their land will be infertile. If I were a farmer, I would not want to incur any cost as I am already earning so low. Even if I really want to be eco-friendly and transport the trees for disposal, I would harm the productivity of the crops due to insufficient nutrients in the soil.
We have to bear in mind that we are living in a resource scare world. These farmers produce food for us instead of harming us. I think that they should not be blamed.

For the past 12 years, Singapore and Malaysia had been affected by the haze cause in Indonesia by their slash-and-burn farmers. It is during the month of August to November. The highest PSI reading was during the year of 1997 when it actually hit a scale of 226. The next highest was in the year 2006, with PSI reading of 136 to 150. Last year, the PSI reading was not as bad as the previous years, on the average, the reading was about PSI 51 to 100. This year, the PSI reading ranged from 56 to 108, PSI over 100 is considered harmful and unhealthy.

I think that it is not wrong for the Indonesians to have open burning, it is their country's way of doing. I feel that When the farmers burn their forest, not only Singapore and Malaysia is affected, imagine the people living in Indonesia, they are suffering even more. I think that we should not always think of only ourselves, but also think about the big picture. Although we cannot stop the farmers from open burning, but we can think of other solutions to at least reduce this problem.

Every year when the Indonesian farmers carry out open burning, many problems will arise, mainly health and environment issues. By having these large scale burning, it releases a vast amount of greenhouse gases, which contributes to global warming. There are also several health issues, especially those with heart or respiratory ailments. For myself, I am also having sinus problems, causing me to fall sick easily during this period.

I feel that Singapore and Malaysia should do a part to help Indonesia reduce the haze problem that they are causing. If all of us were to work together and co-operate, then we will be able to reduce the harm to the lowest.

Haze...Haze....Please go away forever.....

Forest fires at Indonesia, Sumatra have caused a thick cloud of smoky haze to drift over Singapore, causing the worst air pollution in four years. From BBC news, the Indonesian Environment Ministry acknowledged that forest fires in Sumatra were the cause of the haze and said it was investigating further. The National Environment Agency (NEA) attributed this to the smoke haze from the fires in Sumatra brought in by the prevailing south-westerly winds.

Having haze in Singapore is like a yearly routine. Last Thursday, the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) recording climbed to 108 at 6pm which is much higher compared to 80 on Wednesday. It was the worst recording since 2006 when Singapore was last blanketed by the severe haze. I seriously wonder where did the money that the neighbouring countries like Singapore and Malaysia gave to Indonesia to tackle the forest fire issues. Even the World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature is working with Indonesian non-government organisations to assess forest conservation as stated in the TODAY newspaper. Those inconsiderate farmers in Indonesia who causes the haze need to stop clearing forest by burning. Due to their acts of doing things the easy way, people like us will suffer from some health problems due to haze.

I am one of them that suffer from the haze side effects. Usually (when there’s no haze), in the morning I’ll just be sneezing around two to three times and that’s all. This sneezing is not a sign of having a flu but just normal nose irritant as my house is located near the express way. However, due to the recent haze problem I have been sneezing all day long and my throat was also in pain. It really makes me feel uncomfortable especially when I’m outdoor. I need to have packs of tissues as I’ll constantly be sneezing.

I hope that Indonesia will really do something about their forest fire problems and not just do the ‘lip service’ talk. At the end of the day not only they suffer but also the neighbouring countries like Singapore. They need to be considerate to their neighbours in order to prevent any ill feelings among us.

A 90 PSI haze that smelled strongly did not appear to deter tourists from enjoying what was left of the scenery at both the Merlion Park and the Skypark at the Marina Bay Sands.

A 90 PSI haze that smelled strongly did not appear to deter tourists from enjoying what was left of the scenery at both the Merlion Park and the Skypark at the Marina Bay Sands.

AS HAZE blanketed the island on Thursday and air quality deteriorated sharply into the unhealthy range, the Singapore Government urged Indonesia to act.

The Pollutant Standards Index (PSI), measured in three-hourly slots, hit 108 at 6pm on Thursday - breaching the unhealthy threshold of 100 for the first time since 2006.

The worsening situation prompted Environment and Water Resources Minister Yaacob Ibrahim and Foreign Minister George Yeo to register Singapore's concerns with their Indonesian counterparts.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said Dr Yaacob had contacted his Indonesian counterpart Gusti Muhammad Hatta and expressed his deep concern that the haze would deteriorate if Indonesia did not put in place 'immediate and enhanced measures' to put out the hot spots in Sumatra.

Singapore also repeated its earlier offer to assist in fire-fighting efforts.

Singapore's ambassador in Jakarta was also instructed on Thursday to inform the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Mr Yeo wished to speak to his counterpart Marty Natalegawa.

At 11pm on Friday, the PSI measured 82.
